Enable Launch Control — G80 M3 / G82 M4

Launch Control on the G8x S58 engine requires specific mode settings to activate. This guide covers the iDrive setup procedure and optional coding tweaks to the Launch Control RPM setpoint via ASDM Expert Mode.

1 Important Prerequisites

⚠️

Transmission prerequisite: Launch Control is only available on G8x models with the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission (auto). Manual G80/G82 does not have Launch Control.

⚠️

Repeated use: Launch Control generates significant heat in the transmission and drivetrain. BMW limits consecutive launches for this reason. Allow 10–15 minutes between launches in real-world use.

  • G80 M3 or G82 M4 with automatic transmission
  • DSC not fully disabled (DSC Sport mode is correct — DSC OFF prevents Launch Control)
  • BimmerCode with Expert Mode for optional RPM adjustment

2 Activating Launch Control via iDrive

Launch Control activation on G8x is a mode setup procedure, not a one-time coding change:

  1. Set up M1 or M2 drive mode

Configure an M setup button with: Engine: Sport or Sport+, Transmission: Drivelogic Sport, Chassis: Sport (not required but recommended), DSC: DSC Sport (M Dynamic Mode). This is key — full DSC Off kills LC.

  2. Come to a complete stop

Car must be stationary on level ground. Engine at operating temperature.

  3. Press M button, shift to D, enable Launch Control

Press your M drive mode button. Ensure Drivelogic is in D (drive). Press Sport Boost on the center console (the button with the lightning symbol). Hold brake with left foot.

  4. Full throttle, release brake

Press throttle to the floor with right foot while holding brake. The cluster should show the Launch Control symbol (dial gauge with LC indicator). When ready, release the brake.

3 Optional: Adjust LC RPM via BimmerCode

The factory LC engagement RPM is ~3,000 RPM. Some owners prefer slightly higher or lower. This requires ASDM Expert Mode in BimmerCode.

ℹ️

Higher RPM setpoints generate more heat and wear. Do not exceed 4,000 RPM on street cars. The factory 3,000 RPM is optimized for traction — going higher on street tires rarely improves 0–60 times.
