Enable Digital Speedometer
Unlock the large digital speed readout hidden inside the G-series instrument cluster. The hardware is already there on all G-platform cars — you just need to activate it via the KOMBI module.
1 Prerequisites
Requires BimmerCode Expert Mode. The digital speedometer parameter is not exposed in standard mode. Applies to G-series cars with the standard round cluster — cars ordered with the Live Cockpit Professional (large digital cluster) may have this already active.
- BimmerCode app with Expert Mode
- Compatible OBD2 adapter (Veepeak BLE+, OBDLink MX+)
- Ignition ON, engine off or running
2 Coding Parameters
Two parameters in the KOMBI module control digital speed display activation and the display format.
| Parameter | Set To | Default | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Digitalanzeige_Geschwindigkeit | aktiv | nicht_aktiv | Enables the large digital speed readout |
| Geschwindigkeit_digital_Einheit | km_h or mph | km_h | Select your preferred unit |
On some 2020+ G20 builds, the parameter name appears as digital_speedometer in English. The value logic is the same — enable / disable.
3 Step-by-Step
-
Connect OBD2 adapter and open BimmerCode
Plug the adapter into the OBD port. Open BimmerCode, allow it to connect and identify your chassis.
-
Expert Mode → KOMBI
Tap Expert Mode, then select KOMBI from the module list. Let it read current values.
-
Search for Digitalanzeige_Geschwindigkeit
Use the search bar, type Digital. Find Digitalanzeige_Geschwindigkeit and change it from nicht_aktiv to aktiv.
-
Set your preferred unit (optional)
If you want mph instead of km/h, find Geschwindigkeit_digital_Einheit and change to mph.
-
Code and verify
Tap Code. After success, turn ignition off, back on. The digital speedo should appear in your cluster — typically in the center of the analog gauge area or in a dedicated zone depending on your cluster variant.
4 Toggle via iDrive
Once coded active, you can often toggle the digital speedo display via iDrive settings under Settings → Displays → Instrument cluster without needing to recode. The coding sets the capability as available; iDrive controls the view preference.
